1. MANAGER - FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING

Job Title: Manager - Financial Accounting (1 Post)

Job Reference Number: GDC/CS/HRM/FA/01/2025

Terms of Employment: 5 Year Contract Renewable subject to Performance

Job Grade: GDC3

Department: Financial Accounting

Reporting to: General Manager - Finance & Investment

a) Job Summary

The job holder is charged with ensuring prudent management of financial resources through documentation, condensation and presentation of the transactions arising from the Company's activities throughout a defined period with a view of presenting a clear image of the Company's operational performance and to provide an understanding of the true financial position and health of the organization for decision-making.

b) Job Specification

Duties and responsibilities will entail: -

i. Providing technical leadership to teams in the department to enable them to develop, implement and evaluate strategic management plans and budgets aimed at improving performance standards and achievement of organizational goals

ii. Developing supplementary financial regulations and procedures to enhance internal controls established through Treasury regulations and procedures

iii. Monitoring and implementing the laid down expenditure controls so as to ensure that financial expenditure is planned, controlled and properly authorized

iv. Coordinating and ensuring that budgets are prepared, consolidated and submitted as per the guidelines issued

v. Develop and maintain forecast models for income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement of company

vi. Managing the Company’s financial investment and assets

vii. Coordinating the preparation of all financial reconciliations

viii. Accounting for funds disbursed to the Company

ix. Managing the preparation and interpreting financial statements, management accounts and reports

x. Ensuring statutory and quarterly management reports are prepared and submitted as per the legal requirements

xi. Coordinating maintenance of an asset register

xii. Coordinating implementation of departmental strategic objectives

xiii. Authorizing payments and signing of cheques subject to set limits

xiv. Managing staff performance within the department

xv. Mentoring and coaching the departmental staff

xvi. Coordinating and implementing identified performance contracting targets

c) Person Specifications

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

i. A minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant work experience, four (4) of which must have been in a managerial role

ii. Master’s degree in a relevant field from a recognized institution

iii. Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance option) or its equivalent

iv. Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks (cumulative)

v. Certified Public Accountants - CPA (K) or its equivalent

vi. Member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) as a CPA(K) or any other relevant professional body

vii. Proficiency in computer applications

viii. Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya

  • Credit Reference Bureau - (Certificate of clearance or credit report)
