1.       GENERAL MANAGER – GEOTHERMAL RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

Job Title: General Manager - Geothermal Resource Development (1 Post)

Job Reference Number: GDC/HRM/GRD/GMGRD/01/2026

Terms of Employment: Five (5) Year Contract Renewable Once subject to Performance

Job Grade: GDC2

Directorate: Geothermal Resource Development

Reporting to: Managing Director & CEO

Salary Range: Kes: 270,000.00 - 380,000.00

 

Job Description

Duties and responsibilities will entail:

i.       Providing leadership in the development and implementation of geothermal development strategies.

ii.      Developing policies and procedures to achieve geothermal development strategic objectives.

iii.    Coordinating and overseeing geoscientific exploration and resource assessment, reservoir and steam field management, utilization of geothermal resource, environment, safety and health, and well targeting and resource optimization.

iv.    Directing the process of identifying sites, targets, and parameters for drilling geothermal exploration, appraisal, production, and re-injection wells.

v.     Providing guidance on well measurements.

vi.    Providing leadership on resource assessment, development, and review of conceptual and reservoir models.

vii.   Providing leadership on geothermal resource utilization, steam field and reservoir monitoring and management.

viii.  Ensuring geothermal resource sustainability and enhancement of energy utilization within GDC’s licensed areas.

ix.    Ensuring effective and efficient revenue generating activities through consultancies.

x.     Promoting collaboration, research, and development of new technologies in the field of geothermal resource development.

xi.    Directing management of geothermal scientific laboratories to ensure international affiliation and accreditation standards.

xii.   Ensuring safe custody of data generated from geo-science, drilling, and steam fields development.

xiii.  Providing advice on the direction of geothermal resource development in accordance with the geothermal expansion plan of the company.

xiv. Facilitating scientific, resource assessment and reservoir engineering innovations and consultancy services in liaison with the mandated Directorate.

xv.   Oversee the Company’s Safety, Health, and Environment Mandate.

Job Specification

b)              Person Specifications

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

     i.        A minimum period of fifteen (15) years of work experience, five (5) years of which must in a Senior Management Role.

    ii.        Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: - Earth/Geological Sciences, Geothermal technology, relevant Engineering fields or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution

  iii.        Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Earth/Geological Science, Chemical/Mechanical/Reservoir Engineering fields, or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

  iv.        Post Graduate Diploma in Geothermal Energy Technology or an equivalent from a recognized institution.

    v.        Leadership course lasting not less four (4) weeks (cumulative).

  vi.        Be a member of Geothermal Association of Kenya (GAK) or any relevant professional body/association.

 vii.        Proficiency in computer applications.

viii.        Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
