Job Title: Manager - Geothermal Resource Centre (1 Post)

Terms of Employment: Five (5) Year Contract Renewable subject to Performance

Job Grade: GDC3

Department: Geothermal Resource Centre

Reporting to: General Manager – Business Development

Salary Range: Kes: 220,000.00 – 330,000.00

 

Job Description

Duties and responsibilities of a manager will entail:

i.       Aligning departmental strategic goals and objectives with the company’s strategic goals and objectives and ensure implementation for achievement of the company’s mandate.

ii.      External coordination (Liaison role and reports to external parties such as financiers, sectoral ministries, project contractors/consultants).

iii.    Management of contractual and administrative aspects of external consultancies.

iv.    Facilitate research and innovative technologies/ideas aimed at improving GDC processes and project delivery efficiency by focusing on emerging technical and engineering challenges arising from geothermal exploration, development, and production both within and outside GDC; this may be in partnership with local and international institutions/agencies.

v.     Directs research and development strategies, tools, management processes and methodologies and advice on innovative, research and development ideas.

vi.    Steer all external consultancy activities aimed at generating revenue for the organization.

vii.   Participate in all programs and initiatives geared towards the actualization of the Geothermal Resource Centre (GCE).

viii.  Spearheads the development of partnerships and collaborations with partners locally, regionally, and internationally with the aim of leveraging strategic partnerships in research, innovation, and consultancy.

ix.    Oversee the annual budgeting process in-line with the company strategic plan while monitoring budget utilization for the department to ensure compliance.

x.     Oversee staff engagement and development for continuous growth and knowledge exchange.

xi.    Manage all assets allocated to the department, i.e. equipment, staff, finances, software.

xii.   Setting departmental performance targets and work plans in line with the department’s performance targets and ensuring their achievement.

xiii.  Providing leadership on staffing, development and performance management programs while ensuring staff are motivated for good team performance.

xiv. Spearheading support negotiations and building of relationship with external service providers to the benefit of the company’s image, cost and long-term support on material and service delivery.

xv.   Overseeing the establishment and implementation of a sound risk management system within the department.

xvi. Enforcing rules on occupational health and safety including wearing proper work attire and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

xvii.                   Management of all data, information, and records related to the department.

Job Specification

b)              Person Specification

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: -

     i.        A minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant work experience, four (4) years of which should have in a management role.

    ii.        Master’s Degree in a relevant field from a recognized institution.

  iii.        Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following Engineering fields: - Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Electronics, Agricultural, Mining Engineering, Energy/ Geothermal/ Drilling Technology, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

  iv.        Management course lasting not more than four (4) weeks.

    v.        Registered Professional by Engineers Board of Kenya/Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board or equivalent.

  vi.        Proficiency in computer applications.

 vii.        Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter 6 of the constitution of Kenya.
