  PRINCIPAL LEGAL SERVICES OFFICER

 

Job Title: Principal Legal Services Officer (1 Post)

Job Reference Number: GDC/HRM/CSLS/LS/PLSO/02/2026

Terms of Employment: Permanent.

Job Grade: GDC 5

Department: Legal Services

Reports To: Manager – Legal Services

Salary Range: KES 170,000 – KES 260,000 per month.

 

a)     Job Description

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: -

     i.        Assist in reviewing of complex, sensitive and high-risk legal matters in order to determine which cases pose the greatest threat to the security of the Company.

    ii.        Providing legal advice and assistance as necessary.

  iii.        Assisting in ensuring that the Company’s insurance portfolio is run in the most cost-effective manner.

  iv.        Spearheading debt collection from staff who is no longer engaged with the company.

    v.        Ensuring that the preparation, drafting and the negotiation of contracts, leases, formal agreements and other legal instruments between the Geothermal Development Company and other parties are done in the Organization’s best interest.

  vi.        Monitoring developments in legal research, participate in outreach programs to strengthen corporate governance and improve the quality-of-service delivery.

 vii.        Drafting legal documents, interpret and implement laws and rulings including government policies and regulations.

b)         Person Specifications

     i.        A minimum period of eight (8) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which must have been in a supervisory role.

    ii.        Master’s degree in a relevant field from a recognized institution.

  iii.        Bachelor of Laws degree from a recognized institution.

  iv.        Supervisory course lasting not less than two (2) weeks.

    v.        Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the Council of Legal Education.

  vi.        Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

 vii.        Membership to relevant professional body – LSK and ICPS (K).

viii.        Proficiency in computer applications; and

  ix.        Fulfilled the provisions of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.
