Job Title: Principal Geo-Scientist (Geophysics) – Geothermal Resource Assessment (1 Post) Job Reference Number: GDC/HRM/GRD/GRA/PGGPHY/01/2026 Terms of Employment: Permanent. Job Grade: GDC 5 Department: Geothermal Resource Assessment Reports To: Manager – Geothermal Resource Assessment Salary Range: KES 170,000 – KES 260,000 per month.
a) Job DescriptionDuties and responsibilities of a Chief Geologist will entail: - i. Developing sectional work plans ii. Managing sectional budgets iii. Reviewing surface exploration and well reports iv. Facilitating the process of identifying and ranking geothermal prospects v. Directing the drilling crew on drilling targets vi. Planning and monitoring drilling parameters during drilling vii. Planning and monitoring well logging/fluid sampling and analysis activities/ processes.

| Job Specification | b) Person SpecificationsFor appointment to this grade, an officer must have: i. A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant work experience three (3) years of which must have been in a supervisory role. ii. Master’s degree in: - Earth/Geological Science, Geology, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geothermal Energy Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
iii. Bachelor’s degree in: - Earth/Geological Science, Geology, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Geospatial Science/Engineering, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. iv. Post Graduate Diploma in Geothermal Energy Technology or an equivalent from a recognized institution shall be an added advantage. v. Supervisory course lasting not less than two (2) weeks. vi. Member of the Geological Society of Kenya (GSK) or any other relevant professional body. vii. Proficiency in computer applications. viii. Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
