Job Title: Manager - Legal Services (1 Post)

Job Reference Number: GDC/CS/HRM/LS/01/2025

Terms of Employment: 5 Year Contract Renewable subject to Performance

Job Grade: GDC3

Department: Legal Services

Reporting to: Company Secretary & General Manager - Legal Services

a) Job Summary

The job holder is responsible for drafting and execution of contracts, providing legal and advisory services and carrying out legal audits for compliance.

b) Job Specification

Duties and responsibilities will entail: -

i. Overseeing and providing guidance and advice on the day-to-day management of the company including compliance with legal, governance and statutory requirements

ii. Providing technical leadership to teams and legal advice in the department on matters relating to the Company, Labour Laws and Industrial Relations within the relevant Legal Framework

iii. Overseeing the formulation of a sound contract management process from tendering to contract preparation, negotiation and execution

iv. Formulating, monitoring and evaluating the implementation of work-plans related to the formulation of an enabling framework for litigation, compliance, contracts and conveyancing matters

v. Managing drafting of legal documents as required and smooth implementation of all conveyancing matters to ensure perfection of documentation and securities

vi. Providing legal advice and assistance on all relevant aspects of government regulation and applicable law

vii. Managing the Legal Opinions and Legal Interpretations on various matters as required including interpretation of court and arbitral rulings affecting the Company

viii. Monitoring developments in relevant law, conduct legal research and participate in outreach programs to strengthen corporate governance and improve the quality of service delivery

ix. Managing performance in the Legal Services Department and participating in organizational performance reviews, business process improvements aimed at improving organizational effectiveness

x. Participating in the recruitment and selection, orientation, induction and Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations as and when required

xi. Reviewing incidents of violations against organizational policy and regulations; handle disputes and take appropriate action in line with approved policies, procedures and regulations

xii. Preparing concept papers, board papers, periodic progress reports and annual reports as necessary

c) Person Specifications

i. A minimum period of twelve (12) years relevant work experience, four (4) years of which must have been in a managerial role

ii. Master’s degree in a relevant field from a recognized institution

iii. Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the Council of Legal Education

iv. Bachelor of Laws degree from a recognized institution

v. Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks (cumulative)

vi. Advocate of the High Court of Kenya

vii. Certified Secretary (K)

viii. Membership to relevant professional body – LSK and ICS (K)

ix. Proficiency in computer applications

x. Fulfilled the provisions of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya
