1. MANAGER - GEOTHERMAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Job Title: Manager - Geothermal Resource Management (1 Post)

Job Reference Number: GDC/CS/HRM/GRM/01/2025

Terms of Employment: 5 Year Contract Renewable subject to Performance

Job Grade: GDC3

Department: Geothermal Resource Management

Reporting to: General Manager - Geothermal Resource Development

a) Job Summary

The job holder is responsible for exploration, development and management of geothermal reservoirs to avail steam to power producers sustainably.

b) Job Specification

Duties and responsibilities will entail: -

i. Providing leadership in the development and implementation of geothermal development strategies including development of departmental workplans and budgets

ii. Developing policies and procedures to achieve the company’s strategic objective in the management of reservoirs and steam fields

iii. Providing leadership and ensuring efficient and effective management of staff and resources

iv. Facilitating planning and implementation of geoscientific surface exploration and heatflow measurement of geothermal fields

v. Coordinating the process of identification and ranking of geothermal prospects

vi. Spearheading well and targeting processes and monitoring the drilling process

vii. Implementing and managing steam gathering system and steam supply contracts to ensure quality steam delivery to the power plants

viii. Ensuring execution of well-testing processes, reservoir and steam field performance and monitoring programmes and reinjection strategies for optimal performance

ix. Facilitating and approving geothermal resource assessments and modelling

x. Responsible for contracts for construction of steam piping and fluid collection and reinjection systems, power plants, well intervention and feasibility studies

xi. Responsible for design, fabrication and maintenance of reservoir assessment and management equipment to ensure efficiency of reservoir, steam field and power plant operations and management

xii. Ensure efficient use of steam through accurate metering and audit of steam supply system

xiii. Review and recommend research in improvement/standardization of geothermal well testing procedures, modelling and utilization

xiv. Effectively manage the capacity building and career development of internal expertise/experts

xv. Facilitate scientific/reservoir engineering innovations and consultancy services in liaison with the departmental mandate

c) Person Specifications

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

i. A minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant work experience four (4) years must be in Supervision role.

ii. Master’s degree in: - Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Civil, Electrical, Chemical, Mining), or Earth/Geological Science, Geology, Geochemistry, Geothermal Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution

iii. Bachelor’s degree in: - Engineering, (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Civil, Electrical, Chemical, Mining) or Earth/Geological Science, Geology, Chemistry, Geochemistry, Physics or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution

iv. Post Graduate Diploma in Geothermal Energy Technology or an equivalent from a recognized institution

v. Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks (cumulative)

vi. Be a member of any relevant professional body/association

vii. Proficiency in computer applications

viii. Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya
